We Object!

We are a collective of concerned legal professionals alarmed at the unprecedented attacks on the judiciary and the legal profession by the current administration. We need to maintain the independence of the judiciary. Join us as we rise to object to these unconstitutional attacks on the third branch of government.

Statement of Purpose

The purpose of We Object! is to find common ground in law and policy that promotes good governance that is fair, impartial, and consistent with the laws and values of our democracy. Consistent with that purpose, our goals are to uphold the independence of our judiciary from external influences, facilitate communications and activities that preserve our democracy, and promote accountability of members of the legal community when their behavior is inconsistent with good governance.

We Object! is an activist organization comprised of practicing attorneys, legal scholars, and law students dedicated to objecting to blatant and unconstitutional efforts to circumvent the rule of law and undermine the judiciary, the third co-equal branch of government. To foster common ground in this mission, we are committed to:

  1. Preserving the independence of the judiciary from external influences.

  2. Facilitating communications and activities that strengthen democracy.

  3. Promoting accountability within the legal community when actions diverge from the principles of good governance.

A substantial threat requires a substantial response

We Object! was founded to oppose direct attacks on municipal, state, and federal courts, including but not limited to: extortion of law firms, threats and intimidation of judges, unconstitutional and frivolous legal arguments, and open defiance of lawful court orders by litigants, attorneys, legislators, or senior government officials, whomever they may be.

We recognize that U.S. courts have a sacred duty to adjudicate legal disputes, render verdicts, and uphold individual rights as set forth in the U.S. Constitution. A political climate that seeks to reshape the judiciary into a tool for an unchecked executive branch demands a well-organized and impactful response.

Without functional courts, the United States risks becoming a nation without the legal safeguards necessary to protect individual liberties.

To defend the courts, We Object! will engage in legal and lawful resistance, including:

  • Identifying, documenting, and rapidly responding to overt attacks on the judiciary by actions both legal and demonstrative.

  • Alerting the public and our elected officials to deliberate attempts to weaken legal standards.

  • Implementing targeted legal challenges, social activism, political campaigns, and media outreach.

  • Providing guidance to counter sustained efforts to undermine judicial norms.

We Object! operates independently with internal leadership and remains free from external influences. Our funding will be managed transparently. All internal and external communications will comply with the organization's adopted principles to ensure integrity and accountability in our mission.

It is our interpretation of the current administration’s actions that the executive branch intends to nullify the legislative and judicial branches, and usher in an authoritarian government.

It is happening quickly.

As members of the judicial branch, we object.

Americans respect judges.

Americans respect court decisions.

We must stand up and object.

"It is emphatically the province and duty of the judicial department to say what the law is.”

Marbury v Madison, 1803
